The Johns Hopkins Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center (JHCCC) was fully designated as an NCI Comprehensive Cancer Center in 1976 and successfully competed for its first Cancer Center Support Grant (CCSG) in 1978. The Cancer Center has departmental status within the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and thus the Director of the Johns Hopkins Comprehensive Cancer Center, reports to the Dean of the School of Medicine and CEO of Johns Hopkins Medicine, Dr. Paul Rothman. Dr. William Nelson serves as the Director of the Cancer Center. Dr. Wu reports directly to Dr. Nelson and has a joint faculty appointment in the Department of Oncology. The Cancer Center includes nine Research Programs. The JHCCC also provides several shared resources to its investigators, including 20 shared resource Cores. This Cervical Cancer SPORE functions as an Application Program and is associated with three of the Discovery programs: Cancer Immunology, Viral Oncology, and Cancer Prevention and Control.
