Welcome to the Oncology Tissue & Imaging Services (OTIS) Core Lab

Purpose

Oncology Tissue and Imaging Services (OTIS) Core Lab, previously referred to as OTS, uses the science of histology to facilitate the highest quality tissue and cell research needs for investigators who are unable to do so exclusively within their research lab.

Goal

Oncology Tissue and Imaging Services (OTIS) is a non-profit organization that is partially supported by The National Institute of Health (NIH) in direct correlation with The Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center, where we set our attention on innovative research in honor of The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine legacy of excellence, as we provide quality results for our investigators.

Method

Oncology Tissue and Imaging Services (OTIS) performs all standard histology procedures to assist with cutting-edge research studies in oncology, genetics, cell growth and development, collagen production and aging, Alzheimer’s, and much more—our procedures include: grossing, processing, microtomy (sectioning of paraffin embedded samples), cryosectioning (frozen), routine (H&E), immunohistochemistry (IHC), and special stains (Acid-Fast Bacilli (AFB) and Masson’s Trichrome (MAS)).  We also specialize in Tissue Micro-Arrays (TMA), Scanning, and Spatial Gene Sequencing (preparation of slides for Visium 10x).

Mission

To illustrate the function of histology and its continued importance within the sphere of research.  By educating researchers on the methodology of this science and the innovative ways histology reinforces its genesis in medicine, we are able to empower the vision of our researchers as they discover ground-breaking ways to one day preserve and/or save lives.
