The laboratory of Alan K. Meeker, Ph.D. is located in the Department of Pathology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Utilizing a combination of tissue-based, cell-based, and molecular approaches, our research focuses on abnormal telomere biology as it relates to cancer initiation and tumor progression, with a particular interest in the Alternative Lengthening of Telomeres (ALT) phenotype. In addition, our laboratories focus on cancer biomarker discovery and validation with the ultimate aim to translate these biomarkers into accurately predicting cancer risk, early detection, prognosis, and response to targeted therapies.
- ALT+ Glioma - Telomere-specific FISH with costaining for PML protein
- Normal Prostate Gland – Telomere-specific FISH with costaining for a basal-specific cytokeratin
- Normal Breast TDLU -Telomere-specific FISH with costaining for Ki67 and smooth muscle actin
